DC Fire/EMS Springs Into Action
(Washington, DC) As the Independence Day holiday approaches, FireEMS Chief Adrian H. Thompson is urging the public to celebrate safely and to know what devices are permitted and which are not in the District of Columbia.
The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department is offering an amnesty program for residents of the District who have illegal fireworks. Residents with illegal fireworks may call (202) 462-1762 to participate in the amnesty. A representative of the Fire Marshal’s office will pick up illegal fireworks from residents who participate in the amnesty and dispose of them safely.
“We want everyone to celebrate the holiday, but we stress providing a safe atmosphere for your family,” said Chief Thompson. “We hope that any District resident with illegal fireworks will take advantage of this amnesty.”
