DCFEMS Announces New Chief Communications Officer

Doug Buchanan Brings Over Two Decades Experience in Journalism to Job

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DCFEMS) announced the appointment of Doug Buchanan as its Chief Communications Officer.  Mr. Buchanan is leaving his position as Senior Assignment Editor at WTTG – Fox 5 to bring his energy, vast media knowledge and proven leadership abilities to DCFEMS.

“We are thrilled to have Doug joining our team,” said DCFEMS Chief Gregory M. Dean. “Effective communication – to our customers, employees and other stakeholders – is a critical part of our strategy to achieve our vision of a Fire and EMS Department that provides the best possible service to its citizens.”

“I am incredibly excited to go to work for this City that I love and a fire chief I truly respect,” said Buchanan. “I can't wait to hit the hit the ground running in an effort to highlight all of the great work each and every member of the DC FEMS performs every day. This to me, is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I am thrilled to be a joining the team.” 

Mr. Buchanan has been with WTTG-FOX 5 for over seven years where he was responsible for managing the newsroom and assisting in developing stories, formatting the flow and function of the newscasts, cultivating news sources and managing photographers and reporters. 

Prior to becoming Senior Assignment Editor, he was a producer at the Pentagon Channel and Fox News Channel, and a television reporter at Fox 5, WUSA-TV 9, and at stations in Pennsylvania, New York, and Prince George’s County, Maryland. 

He has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Temple University and lives in the District with his wife and son.

Mr. Buchanan’s first day at DCFEMS will be on April 11, 2016.
