Fire Prevention Week 2018

Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere.


Monday, October 8th 
HOLIDAY (Columbus Day)
10 - 11 am 
Senior Zone Radio Station:  Interview with the Fire Marshal

Tuesday, October 9th
9 -11 am
“Media Blitz”
Fire Marshal Tony Falwell will be on hand to answer questions from the media. All members of the FPD will distribute fire safety materials and educate visitors and citizens throughout 1100 4th Street, SW area. Students from Amidon Elementary School will be in attendance.

12 - 4 pm
Senior Citizen presentations will take place at the following locations:

  • The Claiborne House, Matthews Memorial Church, 2616 MLK Jr., Avenue, SE
  • Congress Heights Senior Wellness, 3500 Martin Luther King Jr., SE
  • Deanwood Recreation Center, 1350 49th Street, NE
  • Greater Fellowship Full Gospel Baptist Church, 814 Alabama Avenue, SE

Wednesday, October 10th
10 am - 2 pm
Fire Safety Olympics
A team from the Fire Prevention Division, Engine 25, MPD Helicopter and Mounties will conduct a fire safety obstacle course activity that includes how to escape from fire. Students and staff at Simon Elementary School will participate. The event will be held at Oxon Run Field.

Thursday, October 11th
10 am - 12 pm
School Safety Day
A team from the Fire Prevention Division and Engine 25 will conduct community outreach and fire safety education for students and staff at Anacostia High School, Hart Elementary and New Beginnings Daycare Center.

Saturday, October 13th
12 - 4 pm
Southwest Waterfront Community Outreach Day 
A team from Fire Prevention Division, the Fireboat, Engine 13 and our community partners will provide fire extinguisher and Hands on Heart training. Fire safety information and giveaways will also be given to the Southwest Waterfront community.
