Consumers Endangered by Mistaken Gasoline Delivery

Monday, February 2, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC - The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department has learned that gasoline was mistakenly delivered into a kerosene tank at a gas station in Hyattsville, MD, just across the DC/Maryland border.

The gasoline was mistakenly delivered to the Citgo Gas Station located at 4644 Baltimore Avenue in Hyattsville, MD. Anyone who purchased what they believed to be kerosene from this station since Saturday, January 31, 2004 is advised NOT to use the product. The product you think is kerosene may be gasoline. Anyone who has purchased what they believe to be kerosene should return the product to the gas station immediately. It is estimated that 1100 gallons of the mistaken product has been sold.

The use of gasoline in any kerosene-burning device can result in explosion and may cause serious injury, death and fire

The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department reminds you that the use of kerosene heaters is prohibited in all residences and most businesses in the District.
