DC Fire and EMS is currently hiring the following position:
1) Firefighter/Paramedic
Closing Date: December 13, 2024
This position is in the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DCFEMS). DC Fire and EMS provides fire suppression, technical rescue, fire prevention, education, community risk-reduction, and pre-hospital care and transportation services to the residents and visitors of the District of Columbia. The Department strives to protect life and property.
Firefighter Paramedics will work in a fast-paced, innovative, and data driven jurisdiction with unique and high-profile special events related to its status as the Nation’s Capital.
Firefighter Paramedics will gain tremendous experience while supporting the core mission of the Department and also have the opportunity to apply for positions that focus on unique specialties.
Firefighter Paramedics are assigned to one of thirty-three fire houses throughout the District of Columbia.
The incumbent will travel primarily by fire suppression unit and medic unit in a prompt and efficient manner in response to calls for emergency incidents. Emergency incidents may include structure fires, emergency medical care of critically ill or injured patients, technical rescues, etc.
2) Assistant Medical Director (Hiring Manager: Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments)

This position is located in the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (FEMS). FEMS is an all-hazards agency providing state-of-the-art emergency medical patient care, treatment and transportation to people in the District of Columbia. This position serves as Assistant Medical Director. This position is established to assist the Medical Director in providing medical direction and oversight for the delivery of medical care, emergency medical training, and medical quality assurance programs of the Department. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Medical Director, who provides administrative direction with assignments in terms of broadly defined mission and functions. The incumbent determines the approaches and methods necessary to independently carry out the mission of the agency to meet program, service or function goals and requirements. Incumbent has authority for directing and evaluating the work of subordinates assigned to functions under his/her area of responsibility, especially related to EMS Quality Improvement, training, and education. Results of the work are considered as technically authoritative and are normally accepted without significant change. If the work should be reviewed, the review concerns such matters as effectiveness and efficiency in meeting objectives to provide the highest level of emergency medical services to District of Columbia residents and visitors who are acutely ill or injured.
Guidelines include the DC Government and Department memorandums, special orders, general orders, and the District Personnel Manual; department budget, accounting, and contracting regulations and procedures, principles and theories of sound organizational management; and the ability to apply this knowledge to the resolution of management problems. The incumbent exercise a high degree of judgment, decisiveness, and resourcefulness in interpreting and applying District regulations, and laws, as well as general principles of public safety management.
The incumbent in this role is responsible for serving as a working leader of three or more employees in accomplishing maintenance and repair work on the Department's fleet of ambulances, trucks, automobiles, and vehicular equipment.
3) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic General Foreman

This position is in the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DCFEMS) Apparatus Division.
The incumbent in this role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment, including vehicles and machinery used in various operations such as fire and emergency services.

Our Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics work under the general direction of the foreman and receive daily direction either orally or by shop repair order.
5) Program Support Assistant (Fleet Maintenance Division)

This position is in the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, (FEMS) Fleet Management Division.
The incumbent serves as a Program Support Assistant responsible for providing a variety of clerical and administrative functions that are auxiliary to the supervisor's responsibilities in the management of the complete program.
The incumbent uses considerable discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties.
