This position is located in the Apparatus Division, Fleet Maintenance Division of the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DCFEMS). The incumbent supervises a group of Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics, Leaders and Workers who are engaged in the maintenance and repair of all heavy-duty mobile firefighting equipment, ambulances, trucks, automobiles and vehicle equipment for the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department’s fleet. Assigns work generated by the preventive maintenance program, breakdown, interim service requests on all DCFEMS apparatus and ambulances. Checks work in progress and inspects finished jobs for quality and completion. Manages shop floor activities by prioritizing work, making repairs decisions and managing personnel.  Trains subordinates in work methods and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, safe practices, operation of new equipment, safety regulations and keeps abreast of latest developments in the trade. Participates in personnel matters concerning performances ratings, leave requests, disciplinary and recommendation actions, promotions, transfers, grievances and beneficial suggestions. Manages and maintains records though the fleet FMIS System provides reports and reviews data on shop floor efficiency. Recommends and puts into practice new methods and procedures as developed by operations are maintained, personnel assigned and management informed. Schedules all routine work. Coordinates the efforts of workers that require the use of different repair groups to make the most efficient use of time available.
