This position is located in the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department. The incumbent assists in ensuring that the emergency medical care provided to the citizens of the District of Columbia is in accordance with governing standards and guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the District of Columbia Department of Health, Office of Emergency Health and Medical Services. This incumbent will serves as EMS Quality Assurance Consultant to the Medical Director, reviewing patient care records, both paper and electronic, for accuracy and completeness. Maintains a database of clinical indicators based on the patient care records at the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, with the approval of the Medical Director. Performs chart review of selected charts to assure that health care practices and in compliance with all governing legal, medical, and administrative mandates. Prepares reports identifying and citing all deficiencies and violations and makes recommendations for compliance. Promotes compliance with District and Federal legal mandates relative to health care practices and develops and recommends operating standards for quality service requirements. The incumbent serves as trouble shooter to resolve problems and/or health violations and exercises mature and discerning professional judgment in applying regulatory requirements and recognized and accepted practices to situations encountered.
