Office of Information and Privacy

The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department’s Office of Information and Privacy (OIP) coordinates the agency’s release of documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It is the responsibility of OIP to analyze and evaluate material within the scope of requests to determine the release of documents to the public, local and federal government, private sector, or media. The Privacy Office OIP monitors the Department’s compliance with all aspects of FOIA and HIPAA, including:

  • Policies and Procedures
  • Training
  • Disclosures
  • Complaints

This office also oversees all FOIA and HIPAA ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of practice in accordance with state and federal laws.

To request a Fire or Medical Report from DC Fire and EMS, use [email protected] for FOIA-related requests and [email protected] for medical records.

The process works depending on the type of report you're requesting:

Fire Reports and Other Non-Medical Records

  • Submit via FOIA Public Access Portal: FOIA Portal
  • Email (if needed): [email protected]
  • Examples of records: Fire incident reports, inspection reports, environmental reports, dispatch audio
