Public Education Section

The Public Education Section is charged with the responsibility of providing fire safety education to the residents of the District of Columbia. The most civically active, this section regularly visits hundreds of schools, day care centers, senior citizen groups and office buildings. Training and fire safety information is available upon request. The unit is equipped with a high-tech, two-story, mobile Fire Safe House that simulates real fire conditions and is suited to train children in fire survival techniques. The Fire Safe House is available by appointment to any group of children.

Our fire safety and prevention programs are conducted in senior citizen centers and other buildings. With the help of interpreters, our programs can be presented in languages other than English (Spanish, Asian and others). Also, with the help of a signer we can make presentations to people who are hearing impaired or deaf. Smoke detectors are also available. For scheduling, contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at (202) 727-1614.
