Office of the Fire Chief 


The Chief of Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DC FEMS) directs overall policy, planning and management of the department with the aid of two Assistant Fire Chiefs.

The Assistant Fire Chief, Operations, is responsible for overall supervision and coordination of field activities, including the Operations Division and Special Operations Division. and Internal Affairs.

The Assistant Fire Chief, Services, supervises the Fire Prevention Division, Fleet Maintenance Division, Management Information Systems, Internal Affairs, Training Academy and the Facilities Maintenance Division.

The Assistant Fire Chief, Medical Director, is a licensed physician responsible for clinical oversight and medical quality management.

The following two positions are currently under review:

The Assistant Fire Chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is responsible for overall administrative management of the delivery of EMS.

The Assistant Fire Chief, Planning and Policy, is responsible for the Office of Professional Responsibility (Compliance), Risk Management Division, Liaison with the Office of Unified Communications, Legislative Affairs, Information and Privacy Office, and the Equity Office.

Within the Office of the FEMS Chief are the offices of Public Information and Customer Service, Financial Operations, Executive Officer (Labor/Management Liaison), and the General Counsel.

The Funding Alert is a weekly publication that highlights grants and funds for which citizen groups and nonprofit organizations can apply. The funds come from the federal government, District government, and various foundations, and are available to support community programs and social services throughout the city.  Sign up to receive FEMS Special Event
